OPERATION
STARTING THE ENGINE
WARNING
• Clear all personnel from the work area.
• Sound the horn to warn people around
the machine.
IMPORTANT: Do not run the starter motor
for more than 10 consecutive seconds. If
the engine fails to start, wait for 30
seconds, and then try again to start the
engine.
Normal starting
STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE
1. Pull the throttle lever to the middle
position.
2. Turn the ignition key to the START position
and start the engine.
3. Once the engine starts, release the key.
The key automatically returns to the ON
position.
4. Check that the warning lamps are off.
5. Warm up the engine.

3-5.
Starting in cold climates
WARNING
Never use starting fluid on this engine, as
the starting fluid could cause an
explosion.
1. Pull the throttle lever to the maximum
speed position.
2. Turn the key to the PREHEAT position and
hold it there while the glow lamp is lit
(about 5 seconds).
If the ambient temperature is –5°C (23°F)
or below, keep warming up the engine for
5 seconds after the glow lamp goes out.
3. After the glow lamp goes out, turn the key
to the START position to start the engine.
4. Once the engine starts, release the key.
The key automatically returns to the ON
position.
5. Check that the warning lamps are off.
6. Return the throttle lever to the middle
position and warm up the engine.
