Trouble shooting

Many  problems  have  a  simple  cause
which is simple to put right. In this section
we  list  a  number  of  possible  problems
together  with  the  method  of  eliminating
them. If you meet a problem which cannot
be  sorted  out  using  these  notes,  then
please contact an authorised 

 service

workshop without delay.

Problem:

'

Flat

'

  sound  image,  in-

adequate bass response.

Cause:

The  speaker  leads  are  not
connected 

'

in phase

'

.

Remedy:

Check 

the 

connections

between the speaker leads,
the 

speakers 

and 

the

amplifier speaker terminals,
referring 

to 

the 

wiring

diagram, and correct where
necessary.

Problem:

Bass too powerful.

Cause:

The  speaker  is  located  too
close  to  the  wall  or  in  a
room corner.

Remedy:

Keep  the  speakers  at  least
50 cm  away  from  the  side
walls, or  alter  the setting of
the 

'

Bass

'

  switch  on  the

rear  of  the  speaker  (TAL
series).

Problem:

No  output  signal  at  the
loudspeakers.

Cause 1:

The  amplifier's  Protection
circuit  has  tripped  due  to
overheating or overloading

.

Remedy:

Reduce  volume;  if  the
amplifier  does  not  switch
itself  on  again  after  about
20 seconds,  then  it  has
become  too  hot.  Leave  it
switched  off  for  a  few
minutes to cool down.

Cause 2:

Short-circuit  in  the  speaker
leads;  e. g.  by  stray  cable

'

whiskers

'

  at  the  terminal

clamps, 

or 

due 

to

mechanical  damage  to  the
cable.

Remedy:

Check  the  speaker  leads
and  terminal  clamps.  Twist
wire  ends  together  tightly,
or  fit  cable  end  sleeves.
Replace defective cables.
