SSH
-
Secure Shell (SSH)
is a protocol for a secure remote connection to a device. SSH provides
more security than telnet by encrypting messages during authentication.

Supermicro switches allow for the configuration of the user login authentication mechanism.
Follow the steps below to configure the login authentication mechanism.
Step Command
Description
Step 1
configure terminal
Enters the configuration mode.
Step 2
login authentication { local | radius | tacacs }
Configures the login authentication
mechanism to be used for switch
access.
Local – Uses the local database in a
switch to authenticate users.
Radius – Uses a RADUIS server to
authenticate users.
Tacacs – Uses a TACACS server to
authenticate users.
Step 3
end
Exits the configuration mode.
Step 4
show system information
Displays
the
login
authentication
mechanism.
Step 5
write startup-config
Optional step – saves this configuration
to be part of the startup configuration.
The
“no login authentication”
command resets the login authentication to its default of
‘local’.
The example below shows the commands used to configure the login authentication mechanism.
SMIS# configure terminal
SMIS(config)#

SMIS(config)# end
