Introduction
T10000 Tape Drive Description

T10000 (

) is a family of small, modular, high-performance
tape drives designed for high-capacity data storage. The drives are either rack mounted
or used in various libraries (see
“Library Drives” on page 27 for a complete listing).
The tape drives use a technology called “partial response, maximum likelihood”
(PRML) to provide a high-density data format that allows the T10000A tape drive to
record and store up to 500 gigabytes (GB), and the T10000B tape drive to record and
store up to 1 terabyte (TB) of uncompressed data. The unique data cartridge uses a
single reel for high capacity. The file reel is located inside the data cartridge while the
machine reel resides inside the tape drive.
The host connections to the tape drive are fiber optic to provide a high rate of data
transfer.
