SECTION 2 | SERVICING THE HIGH LIFT TRUCK
• Drain and replace oil annually. There is a drain plug at the bottom of
the hydraulic tank.
2.1.5.2 | Hydraulic Oil Filters
There are three filters in the hydraulic system:
2.1.5.2.1 | Suction Line Strainer
This strainer is in the tank suction line outlet, inside the oil tank. It should
be flushed out at each oil change.
2.1.5.2.2 | Return Line Filter
This filter is located next to the hydraulic oil tank. Change the 10 micron
element on this filter after the first 50 hours of operation and every 250
hours of operation thereafter, or whenever the condition indicator on the
filter indicates a need for service.
2.1.5.2.3 | Pressure Line Filter
This filter is located on the left side of the truck chassis, just outside the
hydraulic box. Change the 10 micron element for this filter after the first
50 hours of operation and every 250 hours of operation thereafter, or
whenever the pop-up indicator on the filter head indicates a need for
service.
2.1.5.3 | Pressure Relief Valve
An adjustable pressure relief valve is part of the hydraulic directional
control valve assembly. The relief valve is factory set at approximately 1900
psi (131 bar). The only time this valve needs adjustment is if the hydraulic
pressure becomes inadequate to raise and lower the platform lift.
2.1.5.4 | Hydraulic Pump and Clutch
The hydraulic pump is driven by the truck transmission through a hydraulic
clutch in the PTO. Both the hydraulic pump and the PTO require very little
maintenance during normal operation.
2.1.5.5 | Flow Control Valve, Van Body
A manually adjustable flow control valve is located in the line from the
lift cylinders. This valve controls the rate of descent of the cylinders. It is
factory set and should be adjusted only if the lift lowers either too fast or
too slow. See section 2.3 of this chapter for adjustment procedure.
2.1.5.6 | Hydraulic Pressure Switch
The hydraulic pressure switch senses when the stabilizers are down and
pressurized. It prevents raising the van body unless the stabilizer legs are
CAUTION!
Do not mix hydraulic oils of
different specifications. Oils
may not be compatible and
could result in damage to
hydraulic system components.
CAUTION!
There are shut-off valves at
the suction and return ports
to the hydraulic oil tank.
These valves may be closed
when servicing the hydraulic
system. They MUST BE OPEN
whenever the hydraulic pump
is engaged to prevent damage
to components.
