At very low temperatures
N
if necessary, configure for winter
operation, see "Winter Operation"
Switching off the engine
N
Push the Master Control lever to
STOP or
†
– when the Master
Control lever is released, it returns
to the operating position
F
If the engine does not start
N
Check if all operating elements are
set correctly
N
Check whether there is fuel in the
tank and refuel if necessary
N
Check whether the spark plug boot
is connected securely
N
Repeat the starting procedure
or:
there is possibly a non-combustible fuel-
air mixture in the combustion chamber of
the engine that is too rich– the engine
has flooded.
N
The recommended procedure in
this situation is to let the machine sit
for an adequate amount of time to
allow the combustion chamber to
clear and then restart the engine
N
As an alternative, after engaging the
chain brake, you can push in the
decompression valve and, while
holding the unit down with one knee
and keeping the throttle trigger fully
depressed, pull on the starter rope
several times until the engine starts
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire and burn injury,
never pull the starter cord or attempt to
restart the engine with the spark plug or
the spark plug boot removed. In the start
and operating positions, pulling the
starter rope will create sparks that can
ignite fuel and/or fumes.
During the break-in period
A factory new machine should not be run
at high revs (full throttle off load) for the
first three tank fillings. This avoids
unnecessarily high loads during the
break-in period. As all moving parts
have to bed in during the break-in
period, the frictional resistances in the
shortblock are greater during this period.
The engine develops its maximum
power after about 5 to 15 tank fillings.
During work
NOTICE
Open the throttle only when the chain
brake is off. Running the engine at high
revs with the chain brake engaged
(chain locked) will quickly damage the
engine and chain drive (clutch, chain
brake).
Check chain tension frequently
A new saw chain must be retensioned
more frequently than one that has been
in use already for an extended period.
Chain cold
Tension is correct when the chain fits
snugly against the underside of the bar
but can still be pulled along the bar by
hand. Retension if necessary – see
"Tensioning the Saw Chain".
