FILTER SETUP
1. Plumbing Connections:
NOTICE
: Refer to the owner’s manual in the box with
your valve for valve installation and operation instructions.
1. Connect valve ports to filter ports with union halves
provided. Assemble unions as follows for
leak-free operation:
• O-Ring and sealing surfaces must be clean.
• Assemble hand tight only (no wrenches).
• NO pipe compound or teflon tape on unions.
2. Complete all plumbing connections (see Page 5 for
piping requirements).
• Pipe from valve PUMP port to pump discharge.
• Pipe from valve RETURN port to pool return.
• Pipe from valve WASTE port to waste.
• Suction piping from pool to the trap inlet on pump.
2. Lid Removal –
See Figures 3A, 3B, 3C
The filter is shipped with the lid installed.
Hazardous pressure. Stop pump and release
all pressure or vacuum from system before working on filter.
NOTICE:
If filter is below pool water level, close suction
and discharge valves before disassembly to prevent drain-
ing pool.
1. Open the air vent stem on the lid and relieve all pres-
sure or vacuum
Pinching hazard: As water drains from
the filter a negative pressure is generated that can pull
the lid in suddenly if the knobs and clamp dogs are
turned too soon.
Allow the tank’s internal air pressure
time to equalize with atmospheric pressure.
2. Remove the pressure gauge.
3. Loosen The (4) knobs (Figure 3A).
4. Hold the lid by the handle.
5. Turn the dogs sideways so they clear the edge of the
tank opening.
6. Lower the lid into the tank
7. Turn the lid so the narrow end points up and remove the
lid.
To reinstall lid, follow instructions, Figure 5, Page 6.
3. Inspection
Before loading gravel and sand, inspect the internal
distribution piping for any cracked or loose compo-
nents. If any piping is damaged it must be repaired or
replaced before loading sand.
Check the tightness of the retaining nuts on the filter
ports - they may loosen from vibration in shipping.
They should be tightened to 30 ft.lbs. of torque.
4. Loading Sand and Gravel Media
1. Fill the tank with water to just above the laterals before
loading sand and gravel. This will act as a cushion to
help prevent lateral breakage during loading. Loading
gravel too quickly can dislodge or break the laterals.
2. Gently pour gravel into the tank. Refer to the chart for
quantity. Continue until the gravel is even with the mid-
point of the laterals. You may need to push the gravel
around with a narrow board or broom to get it level.
