MECHANICS: RE-ENGAGING THE HAMMER BLOCK IF THE HAMMER IS COCKED, BUT
THE TRIGGER NOT PULLED (Continued)
Method 2
– Opening the action while supporting the hammer.
This is the preferred method to return the firearm to the safe condition with both safeties engaged. In this
method, move the firing pin selector to Position 2, the safe position. Grasp or block the hammer with the
offhand or secure its position with your thumb on the trigger hand. Verify that the firing pin selector is in
the safe position then with the trigger finger pull back on the trigger guard breaking the action open. As the
action opens, the hammer will move forward and the hammer block will rise preventing the hammer to reach
the breech face.
This method is preferred as the opening of the action immediately resets the secondary hammer block safety.
