Fitting speculums
To perform an ear examination, the otoscope must be fitted
with a disposable or reusable speculum.
Position the speculum on the otoscope head. Align the inner
pin with the bayonet slot. Rotate the speculum clockwise fully.
To remove the speculum, rotate it counter-clockwise.
Start-up
To turn the otoscope on or off, push the black switch above the
handle clip forwards or backwards.
Magnifier rotation
To use instruments, swivel the magnifier to the left or right.
MAINTENANCE
Replacing the bulb
Unscrew the otoscope head from the handle. Next, remove the
bulb from the bottom of the head. Insert the new bulb by simply
pushing it fully into its housing.
Replacing the batteries
Unscrew the bottom of the otoscope handle. Remove the two
spent batteries and insert two new LR6 AA 1.5V alkaline
batteries, matching the (+) and (-) polarity markings.
UPKEEP AND CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS
Regularly cleaning your otoscope will ensure optimum optical
performance.
• Do not immerse the otoscope in liquid, do not sterilise.
• Clean the outside of the otoscope head with a soft cloth, or
with a cloth soaked in a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution or
mildly soapy water. To clean the inside of the head, use a dry
or alcohol-moistened cotton bud.
• Disposable speculums should never be reused. Cleaning
them could damage their end piece, leading to a risk of
patient injury.
• Reusable speculums can be cleaned with a disinfectant
solution.
• Keep the otoscope away from excessive heat or cold, oils and
solvents.
• Avoid exposing the otoscope to direct sunlight.
