3.12 DANGERS FROM HIGH PRESSURES

WARNING !

Fluids treated with rotary pumps are under pressure. This could create
danger for persons working nearby if there is any loss.

To reduce risk to a minimum:

Installation and maintenance operations for piping, valves and control
equipment should be done by trained and authorized personnel only.

Never disconnect piping or disassemble the rotary pump when the lines are
under pressure.

In the event of loss identify the cause immediately and remove it.

3.13 DANGERS CONNECTED WITH CLEANING TASKS

DANGER !

It may be necessary to use chemical products to thoroughly clean and
sterilize rotary pumps for food product working processes. Many of the
chemical solutions normally used may cause serious harm if the person
comes into contact with them. They are particularly dangerous for eyes, skin
and respiration.

To reduce risks to a minimum:

Teach all personnel using chemical products for cleaning/sanitizing
purposes how to handle them correctly.

If cleaning by hand:

Do not use toxic or flammable solvents.

Switch off service fluid and electricity supplies before starting to clean the
rotary pump.

Equip all personnel, assigned to cleaning with chemical products, with
protective clothing and protection for their eyes.

Switch off the current to wash rotary pumps.

Clean up anything spilt onto the floor.

With closed circuit washing (CIP):

Make sure that all connections to the washing cycle have been closed
tightly, to avoid contact with hot water or washing solutions.

Establish safety procedures when the washing cycle is controlled by an
automatic system or if it has a remote control panel, to prevent the cycle
from starting up automatically during maintenance and inspection
operations on the system components.
