The MAV-S2000 Hard Disk Drive Array Unit is a
storage device for a MAV-2000 Multi Access Video
and Audio Server. It stores video and audio signals
sent from the server through the SBX (Serial Bus
eXtension) interface using RAID (Redundant Arrays
of Inexpensive Disks) of the built-in hard HDDs (Hard
Disk Drives).
The MAV-S2000 is composed of 22 HDDs, of which
twenty HDDs are used for data and remaining two
HDDs for parity in the modified RAID 6 level.
Features
The MAV-S2000 has the following features:
• The unit is equipped with status-out interface for
three outputs (OPERATE, WARNING and ERROR).
• The unit has two SBX interface ports, that enable two
different transmission rates to be selected.
• The capacity can be expanded by daisy chain
connections.
• Maintenance can be achieved either using LCD
inside the front panel or via a network from a
distance.
• The unit has three power units to guarantee normal
operation even if either one malfunctions.
• The unit can be mounted to an EIA-standard 19-inch
rack.
Notes on Hard-Disk Drives
This unit is equipped with HDDs, which are precision
devices. Shock, vibration static electricity,
temperature or humidity may cause trouble with HDDs
or loss of data stored on a hard disk.
Be sure to pay careful attention when operating and
setting up this unit.
On shock and vibration
Transporting the unit
• Be sure to pack the unit with the specified packing
materials.
• Be sure to use a normal truck.
• Avoid rough roads, potholes, etc. during transport.
Overview
When placing the unit on a floor or stand
• Gently place the unit on a flat and stable surface and
use a cushioning sheet

• Do not place the unit near equipment that causes
vibration.
On this unit and HDDs
• Do not drop tools on this unit or strike the unit with a
tool.
Special notes
• Do not impart shock or vibration to the unit while
power is supplied to the unit or during the first 30
seconds after the power is turned off.
• When a failed HDD or power supply unit is replaced
with the power on, exercise extreme caution.
On installing and removing the unit to and
from a rack
• Remove all the HDDs from the unit.
• Do not impart shock to other machines in the rack
that are equipped with an HDD.
On static electricity
• Be sure to remove all plastic materials that cause
static electricity around the work area.
• When you handle an HDD, be sure to wear a ground
band to avoid static electricity.
On temperature and humidity
• The operating and storage temperature and humidity
must be maintained within the specified ranges.
• Do not supply power to the unit with the cabinet
removed for ventilation.
When trouble occurs
Make a written record of the conditions when trouble
occurred, and the precise symptoms.
