COMPUTER-BASED AUDIO SET-UP
CHAPTER 4
COMPUTER-BASED AUDIO SET-UP
The highest audio quality will be achieved by means of the USB digital connection as it is the only
connection which supports the highest resolution digital audio formats, namely:
•
PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz
•
DSD64 and DSD128
As there are an enormous number of combinations of computer hardware and playback software, we
can only give some general recommendations here on how to configure your hardware/software for use
with the M1 system.
XMOS DRIVER INSTALLATION FOR WINDOWS USERS
In order to ensure bit-perfect transmission of digital audio signals via USB from a personal computer
(PC) running the Windows Operating System, it is essential to first install a special driver package. Use a
web browser to go to the following URL address:
www.sonomaacoustics.com/support
There locate the support features (manuals, downloads, etc.) for the M1, and click on the link for XMOS
USB Driver. This will link to a file of the following type:
Sonoma_M1_XMOS_xxxx.exe
where xxxx refers to the specific version of the file. The latest version will always be available from the
Sonoma Acoustics website.
Depending on the browser used, and your browser settings, you may be asked whether you want to
save this file to your PC, or run the file within the browser. If given the option, run the file, and follow
the instructions below, otherwise, save the file to your PC, and then locate the folder where you saved
it, and run the executable file from there. Depending on your PC settings, you may need to provide
Administrator privileges to install software.
When the
Sonoma_M1_XMOS_xxxx.exe
executable has been launched, you may first be asked whether
you want to allow this program to make changes to your PC, if so, click Yes, and the following screen
will then appear:
Click the Next button, and you will be asked where you want
to install the program.
