”.
1. Screw an M4 bolt into the Pressure Relief Vent Valve.
2. Slowly pull the M4 bolt to withdraw the vent valve.
3. To close the vent valve, remove the M4 bolt and carefully push the valve in until it is flush with
the endcap face.
4.2.2 Charging the Battery
Notes
Refer to
Section 3.9 “Battery and Charger
” for a technical description of the battery, charger
types, modes of charging and how to charge a deeply discharged battery.
Refer to
Cautions
in
Section 2 – Safety
“Damage to Battery Packs”, “Loss of current protection”
and “
Equipment damage”.
The standard WSM 6+ is fitted with nickel metal hydride rechargeable battery. The Type 8370-011-
01/02 charger will charge the batteries in approximately 3 hours.
The WSM 6+ includes special circuitry to monitor the battery pack during charging. This safety
feature makes sure the battery cannot be over-charged in normal use.
The WSM 6+ should always be switched off when not in use to minimise entering into a deep
discharge state. In this state it is possible for some cells to drop to near zero voltage or even
reverse the voltage of their terminals.
To charge the battery, refer to
Figure 4-2 and
follow the instructions below
.
1. Check the ambient temperature is between 10 and 40°C. The battery will not accept charge
outside these limits.
2. Check the WSM 6+ ON/OFF switch is set to
OFF
.
3. Unscrew and remove the protective cap from the connector endcap .
4. Connect the comms/charger cable to the WSM 6+ endcap connector .
5. Connect the PSU 2.1 mm power socket to the comms/charger .
6. Connect the PSU to an AC power source using a standard IEC power lead.
7. Observe the initial 15 minutes of charging operation to determine the state of charge of the
battery.
8. If the battery is partially discharged, the red and yellow LEDs will both flash for about 2–3
minutes. The red Fast Charge LED will then come on for up to 3 hours.
9. When the battery reaches full charge, the red Fast Charge Led will go out and the yellow
Trickle Charge LED will illuminate. The trickle charge may be left connected.
10. To finish the charge process, remove the AC power from the comms/charger.
11. Check the pressure relief vent valve is flush with the housing.
12. Check the battery voltage as reported by the WSM 6+; refer to
Section
.
