7 Introduction
The devices of the SH ARC-USB product family are ARCNET adapters
for usage with USB hosts. They support USB 1.1 as well as USB 2.0.
ARCNET communication is handled by SOHARD's FPGA-based
SH IP-CORE-ARCCTRL [1].
When used with ARCNET RAW Drivers the devices will be fully
compatible to the other SOHARD ARCNET adapters.
Firmware and ARCNET controller are dynamically loaded at driver start,
thus firmware and controller can be updated by simply installing a newer
driver.
Different types of the devices are being offered differing in the ARCNET
Interface: coaxial, RS485, fiber optic or twisted pair.
The variant featuring a BNC socket for sine dipulse signaling via coaxial
cables SH ARC-USB-K has is more compact and lighter than the other
devices of the product family. It is also available as a PC card for use in
low profile PCs.
8 Commissioning
8.1 Switching bus termination and transmission power
Please keep in mind that the device may only be opened by SOHARD (cf.
Safety Instructions).
Please send the device in if you need the bus termination of the
wired interface modules to be activated or the transmission power of
the optical interface modules to be changed.
8.2 Installation of the SH ARC-USB-K-LP
The SH ARC-USB-K-LP is a PC card for usage Low-Profile-PCs. It can be
fixed to the PC casing by means of its slot bracket
USB connections are often realized as plug connectors on the mainboard
of a PC. By means of the enclosed cable SH ARC-USB-K-LP may be
plugged to such a connector if their pinnings correspond.:
