SLOTTING TOOL – USE AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
MOUNTING:
1)
Position the mobile carriage of the slotting tool fully forward (as shown in
the picture) by rotating the input shaft with an adjustable wrench.
2)
Mount the slotting tool on the turret with the cutting tool facing the
workpiece or lathe-chuck as shown. The o-ring (included in the package)
must be installed on the post to assure complete coolant protection.
3)
Affix the slotting tool to the turret like any normal live tool.
CAUTION:
Before using, please verify the rotating diameter (clearance)
of the turret with the mounted slotting tool to avoid collision risks.
HOW THE SLOTTING TOOL WORKS
The slotting tool turns the rotational movement of the live tool into a linear
movement parallel to the Z-axis of the lathe. Each input turn (A) of the X-axis
corresponds to a complete Z-axis working cycle (forward-backward).
- The increase in the X-axis is controlled by the CNC programming showing the X
starting point and X arrival point with F (the working feed) which is translated to
the Z (axial movement) of the carriage
- Once the increase in X is finished (i.e. when the slot is completed), bring the
turret again to starting position X.
- The two movements X and Z will not necessarily be synchronized.
- In the backward stroke, the tool is not in contact with the bottom of the slot
because of a tool release device which preserves the cutting tool.
