accomplished by rapidly double pressing
the anode pole switch. The primary
voltage/waveform is assigned to the high-
pitched tone and the secondary voltage/
waveform is assigned to the low-pitched
tone.
In order to activate the Dual Waveform,
press the MENU button, followed by
the button corresponding to “Dual
Channels”. Once this mode is enabled,
Voltage, Frequency, Duty, and Waveform
settings can be adjusted for primary and
secondary waveforms. To select which
waveform to modify, press the “Waveform”
button, then select Primary or Secondary
(see Figure 32). Press the BACK button. If
the Secondary waveform was selected all
the values are shown in yellow (see Figure
33). Voltage, Duty Cycle, Frequency, and
Waveform can be adjusted as described in
User-Selected Settings (pg. 20) .
WAVEFORM SETTING
Waveform setting determines the
shape of the electrical output. Press
the WAVEFORM button and select a
waveform. Press the BACK button to
return to the home screen. Press the
FAVORITES button to store and recall
settings. Once complete press the BACK
button to return to the home screen.
A. Direct Current (DC) – Continuous,
uninterrupted current, flows from
backpack between anode and
cathode. This method is favored for
use with endangered and threatened
species because it minimizes the
incidence of potential injury. However,
capture efficiency is low and battery
usage is high.
B. Pulsed Direct Current (PDC) – Current
is pulsed at a given frequency and
duty cycle. This is the most commonly
used electrofishing waveform because
of its balance of minimizing incidence
of injury to fish while increasing
capture efficiency and lengthening the
use of the battery.
C. Burst of Pulses- Current is pulsed in
packets of bursts with defined gaps of
electrical output between bursts. This
waveform is commonly used with Dual
Output mode activated while catching
fish in heavy cover or removing
juvenile lamprey from sediments.
DUAL WAVEFORM
In this mode, the Apex can operate with
a primary or secondary user-specified
voltage/waveform combination. The
selection between the two combinations is
