CAUTION
Do not mix battery types or new and used batteries. The label on
the underside of the terminal indicates if the terminal uses
rechargeable (NiMH) or non-rechargeable (Li/FeS
2
) batteries. A
label inside the battery compartment also identifies the cell
chemistry (Figure 12, Figure 13, Figure 10, and Figure 11).
4.5.1 Install the Batteries
CAUTION
Make sure to install the batteries in the correct orientation
according to their polarity. Polarity is indicated on the battery
cover and on the batteries. Incorrect installation may lead to
battery failure, venting and leakage (Figure 28).
CAUTION
Inserting batteries automatically powers on

(factory setting) the
terminal which may deplete battery life. Only insert batteries if
deploying the terminal within a reasonable period or performing
application development.
1.
Remove the 12 batteries from their packaging.
2.
Remove and discard the blue tape around the battery compartment.
3.
Lift the battery cover off the terminal. The screws on the battery cover may be
slightly engaged and may need to be turned loose (Figure 27).
CAUTION
Both the battery compartment and the battery cover must
have the same circular colored labels (red for non-
rechargeable and green for rechargeable).

Insert the batteries paying close attention to battery orientation (Figure 28).
