With occasional use, the product should be discarded after 8 years.
Even when the product has been stored in perfect conditions and
not been used, it should be discarded after 10 years.
ATTENTION: Under extreme loads, the service life of a product
can be reduced to a single use (e.g. after a heavy fall impact, fall
factor > 1).
Always carry out a careful visual check of your equipment before
and after every use!
As a rule, the product should be replaced immediately:
•
After a fall (extreme mechanical load)
•
In the event of excessive wear on metal sections (e.g.
formation of chips)
•
Once the shock absorber has been tripped
•
In the event of any damage to the straps or seams (build-up of
fur, pulled fibres etc.)
•
After high levels of exposure to heat, contact with heat or heat
build-up through friction (visible melting or traces of melting)
•
In the event of irreversible, significant dirt (e.g. contact with
chemicals, bitumen, oils etc.)
Any type of mark (e.g. coloured paint pens) on the via ferrata set
should be treated as chemical contamination and lead to discard
due to wear. If the via ferrata set is worn out, destroy the product
and discard it to prevent any further use, which could be dangerous.
Maintenance, changes, repairs:
Check your via ferrata set before and after every use for potential
damage or anomalies compared with its condition when new. After
a fall - even a small fall - the set must be inspected by a qualified
person. When the shock absorber has fulfilled its function once, the
full set must be discarded. Any changes, additions or repairs must
be carried out exclusively by SKYLOTEC. The set has to be
inspected at least once a year by a certified person.
