Platforms for Elevating Personnel
Section 5 – Operation
5.16-4 Platform Operation
▪
Drive telehandler to area where work is to be
performed. Mark area to warn of overhead
personnel.
WARNING
Do not drive the telehandler while the platform is
occupied.
▪
Using the capacity charts, determine the
maximum height and reach for the weight to
be lifted. Never exceed the lifting capacity at
any given extension or elevation of the boom as
listed on the capacity charts. See
Section 5.12
for details.
▪
The work platform must be levelled before it is
raised to the desired height. The telehandler’s
frame levelling and fork tilting functions must not
be used while the work platform is occupied.
▪
Once the telehandler is properly positioned and
ready to lift personnel, engage the parking brake
and place transmission in neutral.
▪
Secure platform entrance gates. Platform
occupants must not sit, stand or climb on the
guardrails. Ladders and other devices must not
be used to increase the reach of the platform.
▪
All personal fall protection equipment must be
attached only to approved anchorage points on
the platform. Only one lanyard may be attached
to any anchorage point.
WARNING
Never exceed rated lift capacity as shown on
the information plate on the platform or on the
capacity charts.
▪
Lift and lower personnel only at their request.
Sound horn to alert platform occupants before
lifting or lowering the platform.
▪
Follow all operational and safety guidelines in
the telehandler and platform operating manuals.
Perform all movements with caution and as
slowly and smoothly as practical.
WARNING
Personnel on the platform could be seriously
injured if the platform comes into contact with any
obstructions. Ensure the path of the platform is
clear and avoid entanglement with ropes, cords or
hoses.
▪
Once the work platform is at the desired height,
shut down the engine, place the transmission in
neutral and engage the parking brake.
NOTE
Always lower the platform to the ground and
allow occupants to exit the platform before
repositioning the telehandler.
NOTE
Keep platform occupants in direct line of sight at
all times.
WARNING
DO NOT
lower the platform or boom unless the
area below is clear of personnel and obstruction.
