Installation

Considerations for Installations Incorporating the ZETA-NLP

Thereareseveralconditionswhichneedtobetakenintoconsiderationwhen
designingyourapplicationastheymightaffectthemodemanditsfunctionality.These
are:

Environmental conditions:

Themodemmustbeinstalledsothattheenvironmental

conditionsstatedsuchastemperature,humidityandvibrationaresatisfied.
Additionally,theelectricalspecificationsmustnotbeexceeded.

GSM signal strength:

Themodem/antennahastobeplacedinapositionthat

ensuressufficientGSMsignalstrength.Toimprovesignalstrength,theantennacan
bemovedtoamoreelevatedposition.Signalstrengthusuallydependsonhowclose
themodemistoGSMbasestation.Youmustensurethatthelocationatwhichyou
intendtousethemodemiswithinthenetworkcoveragearea.Degradationinsignal
strengthcanbetheresultofadisturbancefromanothersource,forexamplean
electronicdeviceintheimmediatevicinity.

When the application is operational, you can verify signal strength by issuing the
AT command:

AT+CSQ

Tip: Before installing the modem you can use an ordinary mobile telephone to check the
signal strength in each possible installation location. Siretta can also provide a cellular signal
tester which provides a full breakdown of the cellular signal received.

Whenconsideringthelocationforthemodemandantennaplacement,youmust
considerreceivedsignalstrengthaswellascablelengthaslongcablerunscan
attenuatethereceivedsignalstrength.

designedorinstalleditmaycauseradiationlimitstobeexceeded.Forinstance,

andleadtomodemmalfunction.
