About Autonomous mode
When used in Autonomous mode, the WBT Mini is set up by the Simrad EK Mission
Planner program. The EK Mission Planner is also used to switch between the two modes.
Note that
Autonomous mode is an option that must be specified upon purchase. It is also
possible to upgrade a WBT Mini to autonomous mode at a later stage.
In Autonomous mode, the WBT Mini is programmed to perform a predefined mission. A
mission will normally record data over a period of time using specific acoustic settings.
The mission plan is designed using the EK Mission Planner program, and downloaded to
the WBT Mini before the mission starts.
When used in Autonomous mode, the high-resolution RAW data are stored internally on a
high-capacity USB flash drive and retrieved after the mission is completed. The internal
storage capacity depends on your operational settings. With a 70 kHz transducer operating
at CW and collecting data at 100 m range, the disk can store approximately 9,000,000 pings.
Data recording modes
Acoustic data can be recorded in Normal or High Speed mode.
• In Normal mode the processing is done in real-time in the WBT Mini.
• High Speed mode will typically give an improvement of 20 to 30 percent in ping rate
compared to Normal mode, but the data must be post-processed before further analysis
can take place. This post-processing functionality is provided by the EK Mission Planner
program.
To distinguish files that are already processed from files that need to be post-processed,
those recorded in
Normal mode have the extension
.raw
whereas those recorded in High
Speed mode have the extension
.ra_
.
Sleep state
A WBT Mini in Autonomous mode will automatically go to "sleep" if it is not connected
to the EK Mission Planner software. If the WBT Mini is in Sleep (power save) state,
connecting can take up to one minute. In Autonomous mode, the WBT Mini is set up to
enter Sleep state between each data collection sequence. This is done to save battery power.
