If you are experiencing poor or no audio from the fiber optic audio repeater,
refer to Table 6 below.
Table 6. Troubleshooting
Check
Comments
Does the master/slave module have the correct
voltage input?
The voltage input should be between
24 and 28.8 VDC.
Is the power LED ON?
Check input for voltage.
Are both carrier LEDs ON?
ON = a good fiber signal
Is the correct signal level present at the master
input?
The level should be 1V P-P Audio.
Is the correct signal level present at the slave
output?
The level should be 1V P-P Audio.
Are the correct connectors being used?
ST Connectors
Is the optical connector on the master/slave clear
of any obstruction or dirt?
Are the ends of the fiber connectors free of all dust
or dirt?
Is the fiber broken in the connector?
Is the fiber protruding from the tip of the connector?
Use Fiber Optic Inspection Scope (FT890A)
Is the fiber connection properly seated?
Visually check as required.
Is the fiber optic cable pulled to sharply around a
corner?
A minimum two-inch bend radius on the fiber
optic cables must be maintained. A bend radius
less than two inches may permanently damage
the optical fibers.
Is the correct size fiber cable being used?
62.5/125 multi-mode graded index is preferred.
However, 50/125 cable is also acceptable. See
the “Specifications” section of this publication for
distance limitations.
Does the fiber cable pass light in any amount?
Use a flashlight or similar source to conduct the
test.
Does the fiber run have too much attenuation for
the system?
There should be a maximum of loss of 10db.
Fiber Tester - TS055A Optical Source - TS056A
Note:
If problems still exist, set the system up locally by using a small fiber patch cord (EFN062-002M) with short copper
lengths. This test may be setup with or without the fiber units.
Do not attempt to repair the unit. In case of trouble, please contact your local
Simplex Time Recorder Company branch office for repairs.
Consult your local telephone directory for the phone number listing of the
Simplex branch office, or call the Simplex Customer Assistance Department at
(978) 632-2500, and request the telephone number for the Simplex branch office
in your area.
