Intended Use

Reciprocating power saw for light to medium duty cutting of wood, plasterboard, plastic, mild steel,

and non-ferrous metals (requiring the purchase of additional, material-specific saw blades).

Unpacking Your Tool

•  Carefully unpack and inspect your product. Fully familiarise yourself with all its features and

functions

•  Ensure all parts of the product are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing or

damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use this product

Before Use

Fitting a Saw Blade

See Fig. I

WARNING:

ALWAYS ensure that the tool is switched OFF and disconnected from the power

supply, before fitting or removing saw blades.

WARNING:

ALWAYS wear suitable cut-proof gloves when handling saw blades.

WARNING:

Blades can become hot during use. If replacing a blunt Blade allow to cool before

handling.

WARNING:

DO NOT continue to use blunt, warped or otherwise damaged saw blades.

Note:

ALWAYS fit a saw blade specific to the material you are cutting.

Note:

The Blade can be installed with the teeth facing downward (Fig. II, Position A), or upward

(Fig. II, Position B)

To fit the Blade to the saw:

1.  Rotate the Chuck Collar (3) anticlockwise, then insert the Blade (1) shank as far as it will go into

the Chuck (14)

2.  Release the Chuck Collar
3.  Pull the Blade to ensure it is secure. If it is not locked firmly in place repeat the above procedure
4.  To remove a Blade from the Chuck, rotate the Chuck Collar anticlockwise, and pull the Blade out

of the Chuck

Adjusting the Main Handle

See Fig. III

WARNING:

DO NOT operate the tool unless the handle is securely locked in one of the 3

pre-set positions.
•  The Main Handle (8) orientation can be adjusted through 180 degrees, set to 3 pre-set locking

positions

1.  Slide the Barrel Adjustment Switch (6) back towards the Main Handle to release the Rotating

Barrel (5)

2.  Rotate the Main Handle to any of the 3 locking positions
3.  Release the Barrel Locking Switch to lock the Barrel in position
4.

Note:

Attempt to rotate the barrel back and forth to check that it is locked securely in position.

Adjusting the Shoe

See Fig. IV

WARNING:

ALWAYS ensure that the tool is switched OFF and disconnected from the power

supply before attempting to adjust the Shoe (2).

WARNING:

ALWAYS remove the Blade before carrying out any adjustments to the Shoe.

1.  Loosen the Shoe (2) by releasing the Shoe Locking Lever (13)
2.  Reposition the Shoe to shield the length of the Blade (1) as required
3.  Retighten the Shoe Locking Lever

Note:

Where possible, rest the Shoe on the material being cut. Pivot the angle of the Shoe to suit

the shape of the material.

WARNING:

DO NOT operate the reciprocating saw if the adjustable Shoe is damaged or not

installed.

Operation

WARNING:

Always use adequate protective equipment, including eye protection, respiratory

and hearing protection, as well as suitable gloves, when working with this tool.

WARNING:

When cutting wood, ensure foreign objects, such as nails and screws, are removed

from the workpiece before starting to cut.

WARNING

: NEVER attempt to cut with a saw blade fitted that is not suitable for the material.

NEVER use blunt or otherwise damaged saw blades.
Note: ALWAYS ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before cutting.

Adjusting tool speed

See Fig. V

Note:

The speed of the saw can be adjusted using the Variable Speed Adjuster (11). This enables the

saw to be used on a variety of different materials, workpieces and objects.

WARNING:

ALWAYS adjust the speed according to material requirements. Use appropriate

cutting fluid or cooling agent when cutting metals
•  To adjust the speed of the tool, rotate the Variable Speed Adjuster anticlockwise to reduce the

speed and clockwise to increase the speed

•  Avoid running the tool at low speeds for extended periods of time as this may cause the motor to

overheat. If this occurs, cool the saw by running without load at full speed

Note:

Altering the position of the Variable Speed Adjuster will affect the movement of the ON/OFF

Trigger Switch (9); this is normal.

Note:

If in doubt about the correct cutting speed, refer to the blade manufacturer’s instructions, and

follow recommendations specific to the material being cut.

Switching ON & OFF

1.  Connect the plug to the power supply
2.  Hold the tool securely with both hands by the Handle (8) and Secondary Handle (4)
3.  Ensure the tool is not in contact with the workpiece before switching ON
4.  Squeeze the ON/OFF Trigger Switch (9) to start the tool
5.  Release the ON/OFF Trigger Switch to stop the tool

WARNING:

ALWAYS remove the saw blade from the cut before switching the tool OFF.

WARNING:

Always wait until the saw blade has stopped moving completely before putting

the tool down.

WARNING:

Always disconnect from the power supply after use.

•  This saw features a Lock-ON Button (7), which enables the ON/OFF Trigger Switch (9) to be locked

in the ON position (Fig. VI)

1.  Press the ON/OFF Trigger Switch fully
2.  Press the Lock-ON Button
3.  Release the Trigger Switch and the Lock ON Button.
4.  The saw will now remain in the ON position until the lock-ON function is disengaged
5.  Press the ON/OFF Trigger Switch again, to release the Lock-ON Button, and switch the tool OFF

 WARNING:

DO NOT use the lock-ON feature when the material requires cutting at reduced

speeds (e.g. when cutting metal objects).

Making general cuts

WARNING:

 Use ONLY enough pressure to keep the saw cutting. NEVER force the saw Blade;

allow the Blade and the saw to do the work. Use of excessive pressure that causes bending or

twisting of the Blade may cause the Blade to break.

WARNING:

When cutting pipe or large workpieces, ensure the Blade capacity is greater than

the size of the workpiece. Failure to do so will result in kickback causing possible injury and damage

to the tool (Fig. VII).

1.  Carry out the necessary checks and procedures described in the ‘Before Use’ section of the

manual

2.  Mark out the cutting line
3.  Ensure that the material to be cut is secure. Small workpieces should be held in a vice or clamped

to the workbench

4.  Hold the saw firmly using both hands: one on the Main Handle (8) and one on the Secondary

Handle (4)

5.  Ensure the Blade (1) is clear of any obstruction, and the power cord is not in the saw’s cutting

path

6.  Switch the tool ON and allow to reach full speed
7.  Place the Shoe of the tool on the workpiece and guide the Blade along the cutting line
