Unpacking your Sander Polisher
Carefully unpack your sander polisher. Ensure all packaging materials are
•
removed, and fully familiarise yourself with all features of the product.
If any parts are damaged or missing, have these parts repaired or
•
replaced before use.
Preparing your sander polisher
The side handle (4) can be screwed into either of the threaded holes at
•
the front of the machine to suit left or right handed users.
Untie the mains cable and lay it out, ensuring it is not twisted or knotted.
•
ATTACHING ACCESSORIES:
Ensure that your sander polisher is switched off and unplugged from the
•
mains supply.
The backing pad (6) can now be fitted.
•
Whilst pressing the spindle lock button (8) rotate the spindle (7) until
•
it locks. You will hear a positive “click” and the spindle lock button will
press in further. Keep pressure on the button (8)
Attach the backing pad (6) by screwing it on to the spindle (7) in a
•
clockwise direction.
NOTE: Only tighten accessories by hand. The spindle rotation will keep
•
them secure. Over tightening can make them extremely difficult to
remove.
Release the spindle lock (8) and spin the backing pad by hand to check
•
it is free.
Fitting polishing pads and sanding sheets
Hook and loop fitting polishing bonnets, polishing sponges, and sanding
sheets are a press fit onto the face of the backing pad (6).
Ensure they are centred correctly by spinning the backing pad by hand
before use.
Using your sander polisher
Connect the machine to the mains power supply.
•
Hold the tool with both hands: One on the main handle and one on the
•
side handle (4)
Note the number on the speed control (1). This number signifies the
•
current speed setting of the machine.(1 is the lowest, 6 the highest
speed.)
The sander polisher can be set to the required speed before starting or
•
during use.
The sander polisher has a “Soft start” function, which means it will start
•
slowly then build up speed.
To start: with the hand on the main handle, press the safety switch (3)
•
forwards and squeeze the ON/OFF switch (2). The switch will give a
positive “click” as it connects.
The sander polisher will start.
•
TO STOP THE SANDER POLISHER: release both safety switch and ON/OFF
•
switch (2 & 3) whilst keeping control of the tool with both hands.
Allow the sander polisher to stop moving completely before putting it
•
down.
Polishing tips
Always ensure that the area to be polished is clean and dry.
•
Read and understand all information supplied with your polishing
•
compound before use.
Evenly apply polishing compound to the polishing sponge, and place
•
sponge against work surface.
GB
6
Hold the machine securely, using both hands, by the handles provided.
•
The polishing sponge should lightly contact the work surface.
Start the machine, and work across the surface using a wide “sweeping”
•
motion. Stop and apply extra compound as required.
When entire surface has been covered, stop the machine and allow
•
compound to dry (follow manufacturers guidance).
Attach a clean polishing bonnet to the machine, and work across the
•
surface as before until all visible polishing compound is removed.
Sanding tips
Always start with a coarse grit paper, and work through progressively
•
finer grit papers until the desired finish is achieved.
Only apply moderate pressure to the sander. Pressing too hard onto the
•
work surface may overheat the motor, or damage the work.
Sand evenly over the work surface, as the machine works in a rotary
•
motion it is not necessary to work with the grain.
Only use the sander “flat on” to the work. Tilting the sander onto its edge
•
will damage your work.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Always keep your machine clean.
•
Never allow the ventilation holes to become obstructed.
•
Use a soft brush, or dry cloth, to clean your machine. If it is available, use
•
clean and dry, compressed air to blow dust out of the ventilation holes.
Be especially careful to clean the machine thoroughly if used for both
•
wood and metal. Sparks from metal work can easily ignite wood dust.
Replacement brushes
Over time, the carbon brushes in the motor will wear away. This wear
•
process will be accelerated if the machine is used in dusty environments,
or if the machine is overloaded.
If the brushes have become excessively worn; motor performance may
•
decrease, the machine may fail to start, or excessive sparking may be
observed.
If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have them replaced at an
•
authorised service centre.
Disposal
Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic
•
equipment, with household waste.
Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the proper
•
way to dispose of tools.
