Product Care and Washing Guide
Service Label & Sling Checks
All products should be checked each time they are used for any signs of deterioration. The service label is a visual
guide to the product’s check, which should coincide with your 6-monthly or annual hoist inspections. This is in line
with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations).
A risk assessment must be carried out to ensure that the correct size and style of sling has been met before use.
It should be standard practice
before
using any manual handling product that the trained carer should make the
following checks:-
•
Check braiding/tapes for deterioration and fraying.
•
Check material for holes/snagging.
•
Check compatibility with the hoist.
•
Check the safe working load of both the hoist and sling/product (if applicable)
•
Check label is legible.
Product
Care
•
Ensure that any Velcro fastenings are closed when not in use. This will prevent un-necessary snagging of the
sling material and stop the hook part of the Velcro becoming clogged up, which could affect the safe closure
of the Velcro support.
•
Washing should occur regularly.
•
All products should be kept in a safe place and never left on the floor due to general health and safety
concerns and hygienic reasons.
Washing Guidelines
•
Always ensure that all Velcro fastenings are fully closed before washing.
•
Follow the wash recommendations detailed on the label of your product.
•
All products should be washed using a non-biological washing powder ensuring a full rinse of all detergents
to prevent un-necessary skin irritation or allergy.
•
Metal fixings are sometimes used in our products. Silvalea Ltd use Stainless Steel fixings which therefore
will not rust when washed. Care should be taken to ensure that all products containing metal attachments are
washed in a pillowcase or wash bag to prevent damage to the product or to washing equipment.
•
Never iron any sling or product.
•
Always wash your product at the temperature stated on the label
•
If in any doubt always refer to the label on your product for specific washing guidelines.
•
Always remove detachable bones prior to washing
Drying guidelines
•
Overheating a textile product can cause deterioration in the material components.
•
Follow the recommended drying instructions on your label.
•
Do not place product on a convector heater or steam pipes.
