Installation Instructions
SIGNAL RECOVERY
Purpose
This document describes how users of the
SIGNAL RECOVERY
(formerly
EG&G/PerkinElmer) Model 7225 DSP Lock-in Amplifier can update its firmware to
improve its performance.
Requirements
Before proceeding, take a few moments to check that you have the following items
to hand:-
a) A copy of the files for the installation program,
UPDATE.EXE
and the binary
firmware,
7225.HEX,
stored in the same folder on a PC’s hard disk drive.
b) A 9-pin male to 9-pin female RS232 null modem (also known as a modem-
eliminator) cable (

part number C01003). The wiring
diagram for this cable is shown in figure 1 below.

You will also need:-
a) A PC compatible computer fitted with a free USB or RS232 serial port and
running XP or later operating systems. If the USB port is to be used then you
will also need a
SIGNAL RECOVERY
adaptor part number CE0116S.
b) Your Model 7225 Lock-in Amplifier.
Procedure
a) Turn off the lock-in amplifier.
b) Using the C01003 RS232 cable, connect either the COM1 or COM2 port on your
computer to the RS232 port on the 7225 (lower 9 pin connector). If your
computer has a 25-pin RS232 connector then you will need to obtain a 25-pin
female to 9-pin male adapter. These are widely available from computer stores
and mail-order suppliers.
