Overview of commissioning
Factory defaults
With the factory defaults (settings as supplied or after resetting to factory defaults), the
SCALANCE S behaves as follows after you turn on the power supply:

IP communication is not possible since the IP settings are missing; the SCALANCE S
itself does not yet have an IP address.
As soon as the SCALANCE S device is assigned a valid IP address by the configuration,
the device is accessible (IP communication is then possible). If router information is also
included in the configuration and has been downloaded to the SCALANCE S, the device
can also be reached via routers.

The device has a fixed, default MAC address; the MAC address is printed on the device
and must be used during configuration.

The firewall is preconfigured with the following basic firewall rules:

All frames from internal to external and vice versa are blocked.

All frames from internal to the SCALANCE S device are allowed
–
For SCALANCE S623/S627-2M: In terms of the basic firewall settings, the DMZ
interface behaves like an external interface.
The unconfigured status can be recognized when the fault display is lit orange.
