Application example with Industrial Ethernet components

With Industrial Ethernet from Siemens Industry Automation, it is possible to build up
large and powerful networks. Components that are designed specifically for industry
enable problem-free data exchange over long distances.

Industrial Ethernet networks can be built up either electrically or optically, both in a lin-
ear structure as well as in redundant ring structures. The managed Industrial Ethernet
switches of the SCALANCE product line are optimized for installing Industrial Ethernet
networks within a line, star and ring topology.

Redundant networks increase the overall security and reduce installation down times.
It is vital for safety and security applications that network reconfiguration time is as fast
as possible after a network fault. The extremely fast reaction times after detection en-
sure that a network can be reconfigured to a functioning network infrastructure within
fractions of a second.

The following application example shows a NK8000 network built with Industrial
Ethernet components in a redundant optical ring structure.
