Star Topology with Master Redundancy (Extended Mode)
Using the mini star coupler, devices/RTUs such as those of the SICAM A8000 series (for example CP-8050) can
be connected via optical and electrical interfaces. The component is cascadable.
You can connect a maximum of 2 master devices to a mini star coupler. The following configurations are avai-
lable for connecting the master devices:
•
Hybrid configuration consisting of the RS232 interface and a fiber-optic interface (see Figure 3-2 )
– The mini star coupler can also be cascaded (see Figure 3-3 ).

2 fiber-optic interfaces (see Figure 3-4 )

NOTE
Use a protocol between master 1 and master 2 to prevent both masters transmitting simultaneously. This
means that you can prevent a data collision.

(1) The RS232 interface and FO2 (optical fiber 2) channel are master channels.
(2) The FO1 (optical fiber 1) channel is an additional slave channel here. FO3, FO4, and FO5 are also
slave channels.
