3 Operational Procedures
3-1 Preparation
(1) Thoroughly wash collection plates and dry them using a desiccator or something similar.
(2) Measure the weight of the collection plates described in (1) and the backup filter.
3-2 Operation
(1) Place the backup filter on the backup filter holder of the Andersen Sampler.
(2) Place a collection plate on each stage of the sampler.
(3) Pass the connector side of the power cord through the hole on the bottom of the shelter and
connect it to the power supply connector on the bottom of the power switch. Firmly fasten
the screw of the connector.
(4) Turn ON the power switch and turn the flowrate adjustment valve so that the float is
positioned at the specified value (28.3 L/min).
Note: The flowrate needs to be calibrated if a membrane filter or other filter with a high
pressure loss is used as the backup filter. Check the flowrate setting in the
provided flowrate calibration table and make an adjustment.
Continuous operation of the suction pump while the flowrate
adjustment valve is fully open burdens the suction pump and
causes a failure.
The suction pump might become hot while it is running.
Do not touch the suction pump while it is running or immediately
after it stops.
3-3 Selecting a Collection Plate
For the collection plate, glass collection plate, glass fiber filter, stainless steel collection plate,
or glass fiber filter, PTFE binding can be used.
Glass collection plate
Directly place a glass collection plate on each stage of the sampler
main unit.
Grease may be applied on the glass collection plate depending on the
properties of aerosol.
Glass fiber filter
Use a filter that is the same as the backup filter. Place a glass fiber
filter on the filter plate (aluminum) and set them on each stage.
Stainless steel
collection plate
Place a stainless steel collection plate on the filter plate and set them
on each stage.
Grease may be applied in the same manner as for glass collection
plates.
Glass fiber filter,
PTFE binding
A glass fiber filter, PTFE binding is used instead of a glass fiber filter
in some cases.
