Hazard caused by drive coasting

WARNING

Hazard caused by coasting of the drive. Without mechanical brake or if the brake is
faulty, the drive might coast to a halt.

Severe or fatal injuries.

•

If coasting to a halt results in application-dependent hazards, take additional pro-
tective measures (for example, guards with locking device), which cover the haz-
ardous area until persons are no longer in danger. As an alternative, you must
equip the drive with a safety brake.

•

The additional protective covers must be designed and integrated so that they
meet the requirements determined in the risk assessment of the machine.

•

After activating the stop command, access to the machine must remain blocked
until the drive has reached standstill according to the risk. As an alternative, you
must determine the access time or calculate the resulting safety clearance that
must be adhered.
