SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• Avoiding water damages: It is advisable to watch the
filter closely for the first couple of days upon instal-
lation, as to make sure the hose connections are
100% water proof.
• The
sera fil bioactive external filter
must be placed
in a safe dry spot outside the aquarium, just below
the water surface level. Never place the unit any
lower than 1.5 m (60 in.) below the water surface
level.
• Do not submerge in water.
• Operate filter only indoors.
• Never operate without or without sufficient water
flow.
•
Disconnect this and all other electric devices from
the power/mains supply especially when working
within the aquarium (water) or on the sera fil bioac-
tive.
• Protect the power/mains plug against moisture and
dripping water.
• The
sera fil bioactive external filter
must be used
only for the indicated purpose.
• The temperature of the water to be pumped must
not exceed 35°C (95°F).
• Ensure that the electrical plug of the switched-on
unit is freely accessible at all times.
•
Damage of the pump head, the cable or the plug
must not be repaired!
In this case the filter must
immediately be disconnected from mains supply,
and must not be operated any more. This is also
applies in case of intended alterations of these
parts. This kind of damage must not be repaired or
mended. In case of damage or leakage at the filter
case, at the seals, or in the parts that contain water,
the filter must immediately been taken apart and
repaired.
• The filter must be connected with a fault current
protection switch (RCD 30 mA).

Troubleshooting
Problem
Possible cause
Possible solution
Filter does not pump water
Too much air inside the filter
Use pump handle, if necessary
open and fill with aquarium water
by 3/4
No electrical supply
Connect to power/mains supply
Rotor does not move
Take off filter head and clean
Outlet valve is not open
Throw multi-purpose handle (4.5)
Pump performance is very low
Too much air inside the filter
Use pump handle (4.10)
Filter is clogged
Clean filter, if necessary replace
filter media with new ones
Recommendations
• Additionally secure all hose connections with stain-
less steel hose clamps.
• Always carry the filter by supporting the bottom.
Never lift it by the filter head, its external parts or its
hose connections.
• Replace all hoses and the filter head seal every
2 years. Grease the filter head seal with Vaseline
every time before you close the filter.
• Place the filter into a plastic bowl. Direct a hose and
cable loop into the bowl to avoid damage caused by
dripping water.
