Power Management
The receiver power consumption depends on its configuration. The following settings
directly influence the power consumption:
The number of enabled GNSS signals. Use the
setSignalTracking
command to
enable/disable signals. To save power, only enable the GNSS signals of interest to
your application.
The activation of the L-band (MSS) tracking. This is controlled with the
setLBandSelect
command.
The activation of the auxiliary antenna. If the auxiliary antenna is not used, power
can be saved by turning off all associated hardware. This can be done with the
setFrontendMode, SingleAnt
command.
The activation of the Ethernet interface. The Ethernet interface consumes more
than 500mW. In power-critical applications, it is recommended not to use
Ethernet and to turn off the associated hardware. This can be done with the
setEthernetMode, off
command.
The following table shows the nominal power consumption at Vin=3.3V and with Ethernet
disabled:
Enable Signals
Single antenna
Dual antenna
GPS + GLONASS L1+L2
1.6W
1.85W
All signals
2.6W
3.0W
When Ethernet is enabled and the LAN link is active, add 560 to 700 mW to the values in
the table.
Stand-by mode: 17 mW
A method to measure the power consumption using the AsteRx4 Evaluation Kit is
explained in Appendix B.
