Drive ID/option select header
Figure 10.1-1a shows a bottom view of the drive (PCB toward viewer) for the purpose of showing the drive ID
and configuration option select jumper connectors for “W/WD” models. Figure 10.1-1c shows the jumper
connectors for “WC” and “DC” models. Figure 10.1-1b shows a rear view of the “W/WD” models drive for the
purpose of showing J1-auxiliary which has a duplicate pin configuration and purpose of J6 (Figure 10.1-1a)
on the rear of the drive. Both J1-auxiliary and J6 have pins for selecting drive ID and for connecting the
synchronized spindle cable and the remote LED cable. Only one or the other should be used, although using
both at the same time would not damage the drive. The notes following the figures describe the functions of
the various jumper positions on the three connectors J2, J1-auxiliary and J6. Suggested part number for the
unusual J2 jumper is Molex 52747-0211 (Seagate P/N 77679052). A bag of both types of jumper plugs used
is shipped with standard OEM drives.

Optional connections to switching circuits
in host equipment to establish drive ID.
Pins 2, 4, 6 and 8 are driven low for
250 ms after PWR ON and reset to
allow jumper selectable SCSI ID.
Dashed area is optional host circuitry (external
to the drive) connected to host supplied optional
usage plug. Drive PCB circuitry for Pin 8 includes
a 150
Ω
series resistor.
Do not connect anything to pins 13-20.

Note: Do not use the smaller J2 jumpers on
J1-AUX or J6, as the jumper contact holes
will be distorted and will not stay on J2 if
subsequently used there.
