ACT PROHIBITS THE DISCHARGE OF OIL OR OILY
WASTE INTO OR UPON THE NAVIGABLE WATERS
OF THE UNITED STATES OR THE WATERS OF THE
CONTIGUOUS ZONE IF SUCH DISCHARGE CAUSES
A FILM OR SHEEN UPON, OR A DISCOLORATION
OF THE SURFACE OF THE WATER, OR CAUSES A
SLUDGE OR EMULSION BENEATH THE SURFACE
OF THE WATER. VIOLATORS ARE SUBJECT TO A
PENALTY OF $10,000.
CERTAIN BULKHEAD AREAS ARE SEALED
IN ACCORDANCE WITH U.S. COAST GUARD
REGULATIONS THAT WERE IN EFFECT AT THE
DATE OF MANUFACTURE OF THE BOAT. ANY
MODIFICATIONS TO THESE BULKHEADS SHOULD
BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE U.S. COAST GUARD
REGULATIONS.
7.4 Cockpit and Deck Drains
Your Scout has two scupper drains located in the rear of the
cockpit. A flap built into the scupper drain fitting reduces the
surge of sea water through the scupper and into the cockpit
while maneuvering or in rough water.
Water is channeled away from all hatches by a gutter or drain
rail system. The water then drains overboard through the
scupper drain system.
Fishboxes , Cooler, Baitwell, and Tackle Station Sink Drains
The fishboxes below the cockpit sole are drained overboard by
a diaphragm pump out system. There is a diaphragm pump
for each fishbox located in the stern bilge that are activated
by switches located in the cockpit switch panel in the tackle
station. Monitor the water level as the diaphragm drains the
fishboxes and turn the pump off immediately when draining is
complete. The pumps could be damaged if they are allowed
to run dry for extended periods.
The baitwell, cockpit cooler and tackle station sink are drained
by gravity to thru-hull fittings in the hull sides. The overflow
in the baitwell drains into the overboard drains.
Bridge Deck Drainage
Water on the bridge deck drains to the cockpit and then over-
board through the scuppers.
The storage compartment below the starboard passenger seat
drains to the bridge deck drain.
Rope Locker Drainage
The rope locker drains overboard through a drain fitting located
in the hull side at the bottom of the rope locker. It is important
to inspect the drain frequently to remove any accumulated
debris.
7.5 Cabin Drains
The galley and head sinks drain to thru-hull fittings in the hull
sides. The head compartment shower and optional air condi-
tioner condensation pan are drained by the cabin sump pump
system. The sump pump discharges to an overboard thru-hull
fitting in the hull side.
The sump pump is located in the bilge below the bridge deck.
It is equipped with a strainer that must be inspected and cleaned
periodically. It is protected by the Shower Sump circuit breaker
in the battery switch panel. After showering, it is important to
let the cold water flow for a period of time to flush the drain-
age system of soap residue. Always make sure the breaker is
activated by the House battery switch before using shower or
activating the air conditioner.
7.6 Drainage System Maintenance
It is essential that the following items be done periodically to
maintain proper drainage of your boat:
• Clean the cockpit drain rails with a hose to remove debris
that can block water drainage.
• Clean the hardtop leg drain holes. This is especially
important just before winter lay-up.
• Clean the bilge pump strainers of debris and check the
bilge for foreign material that can cause the automatic
switch to malfunction.
