Appendix B

Regulator (ADP-320)

Overview

Three-pin

series

regulators are tested on the 5000 Series Tester using a Regulator

Adaptor that plugs into the 5000 Series Tester front panel and into  which a standard
test fixture is plugged.

The adaptor (see Figure 13-1) ties the High Source (A) to the regulator input and the
Low Source (G) to the regulator output.  In addition, the adaptor accepts the divider
resistor pair (R1  and R2),  which sets the output voltage.   Use Load Mount Jacks to
plug  resistors  into  the  adaptor.    For  a  fixed  voltage  regulator,  short  across  the  R2
terminals and leave the R1 terminals open.

Terminals on the test fixture correlate to the regulator terminals as follows:

The regulator load can either electronic or resistive. Electronic selection allows the
load current to be programmed between 100

μA and 9.9A. If resistive, the load is

programmed internally as either 1K, 10K, Open or Short. An external load (R

GK

EXT)

is also programmable. Attach the external load across the R

GK

terminals on the 5000

Series  Tester  front  panel  or  Low  Current  Deck  front  panel  if  testing  at  the  Low
Current Deck.

Output  voltage,  Min  or  Max,  can  be  tested  or  measured  under  a  variety  of
programmed  loads  and  input  voltages  by  repeating  the  test  steps  shown  below.
Input current can likewise be tested.
