Section 4
Control Logic
Introduction
This section describes the various components of control logic available in the
SEL-587Z Relay, both fixed and configurable. For ease of applying the relay,
certain commonly used logic functions, known as fixed logic, are already
programmed in the relay. Although fixed logic cannot be changed, most of the
fixed logic includes options that provide flexibility for different applications.
Inputs provided by the relay include optoisolated inputs, local control
switches (local bits), and remote control switches (remote bits). The relay has
two optoisolated inputs for use as the inputs in a SEL
OGIC®
control equation.
Local (LB) and remote (RB) bits provide the equivalent of traditional control
operations. Local bits use the front-panel LCD and pushbuttons to replace, for
instance, the panel control switches used for opening and closing circuit
breakers and motorized disconnects (isolators). Remote bits use the serial port
to provide the equivalent control as from the local HMI.
Examples of fixed logic are Trip, Close, and Target logic. The relay also
provides variables and timers to build custom logic. You can use this very
powerful feature in many different and varying applications. Assign Relay
Word bits to activate any of the four programmable output contacts.
