MAINTENANCE
As the friction liners on the slip clutch wear the springs may have to be readjusted. By tightening or loosening
the bolt running through the clutch springs the releasing torque of the clutch can be set. If the bolt is set too
tight the slip clutch will not slip and damage to the universal joint shafts will occur. Setting the bolt too loose will
cause excessive slipping and the friction plates will wear out quickly.
Refer to the following illustration and set the height of the clutch springs as indicated. Tighten nuts following an
alternating cross pattern. Check that the height is constant for all springs.
LUBRICATION
Gearboxes
Replace oil in gearbox after the first 50 hours of operation then yearly.
Check gearbox oil level frequently. Steady loss of oil
will indicate damaged seals, which should be
replaced immediately to prevent ruining the
gearbox. Gearbox oil should be maintained to the
height of the lower level plug located in the side of
the gearbox.
Procedure for refilling of gearboxes:
1. Park unit on a level surface.
2. Remove drain plug from underside of gearbox
and drain out oil.
3. Reinstall drain plug.
4. Remove vent plug from top of gearbox and
lower level plug.
5. Fill the gearbox until oil runs out the lower level plug.
6. Reinstall the vent plug and level plug
7. Dispose of the old oil in accordance with the local regulations.
Gear case oil should meet the following specifications:
-API Service Classifications GL-5
-Military Specification MIL-L-2105C
Consult the following chart for the oil viscosity recommendations:
