ADJUSTING THE REAR BEARING
Look at the flyer from above to where the
orifice enters the front bearing. Slide the
flyer shaft toward the rear. There should
be about a 1/16" gap between the front
bearing and the shoulder of the flyer.
■
To reposition the rear bearing, loosen
the screw in the side of the rear maiden.
■
Slide the flyer to the rear about 1/16"
to create a space between the flyer shaft
shoulder and the front bearing.
■
Tighten the screw to secure the rear
bearing.
ADJUSTING THE FRONT BEARING
To check to see if your flyer spins freely,
remove the flyer and re-install it without
the drive band or Scotch tension string.
■
Make sure that there is a gap between
the flyer shoulder and the orifice bearing
as shown above.
■
Spin the flyer.
■
If the flyer does not turn freely, very
slightly loosen the bearing adjustment
screw on the side of the front maiden us-
ing a Phillips screwdriver.
■
Test the flyer and adjust the screw
again if needed.
MOVING THE FLYER HOOKS
Along the bottom of each flyer arm are
eight small dimples. The adjustable flyer
hooks slide along the flyer and a spring
loaded ball bearing snaps into place at
each dimple. The flyer hooks move most
easily if you hold the hooks above and
below the flyer.
To keep your flyer in balance, always
leave both hooks on the flyer.
A NOTE ABOUT TAKE UP
As you spin or ply, the bobbin will get
heavier. You might need to tighten the
Scotch tension string more often.
