Equalization Procedure
Note: Please read background information on equalization on and Equalization
Charging Algorithm on.
Standard Equalization Programs
Both automatic and manual equalizations can be performed using the standard
charging programs (Table 6.3).
Manual Equalization
SCC-30AB is shipped with the DIP Switch (Fig 5.2) set for manual equalization (OFF
position). This is to avoid an unexpected or unwanted automatic equalization. In the
Manual Mode, the push button marked “Equalization” (Fig 5.1) is used to both start
and stop a manual equalization. Hold the push button down for 5 seconds to start
and 3 seconds to stop an equalization (depending on whether an equalization is in
progress or not).
There are no limits to how many times the push button can be used to start and stop
equalizations. Equalizations will be terminated automatically as per the charging
program selected if the push button is not used to manually stop the equalization.
Automatic Equalization
If the equalization DIP Switch (Fig 5.2) is moved to the ON position, equalizations
will begin automatically as per the charging program selected (Table 6.3). Other than
starting, automatic and manual equalizations are the same and follow the standard
charging program selected (Table 6.3). The push button can be used to start and stop
equalizations in both the Manual and Automatic Modes.
Typical Equalization
As soon as Equalization is activated, following indications will be seen:
• Status LED (Fig 5.1) will blink Orange, once per second
• Screen 4 (Fig. 5.3) will show “State: Equalization”
• Screen 6 (Fig. 5.3) will display Equalization parameters related to the
programmed battery type/charging algorithm (Table 6.3)
• Once the battery is overcharged and its voltage rises to the Equalization Voltage
Regulation Set Point and is sustained at this level for the programmed period,
the charger will revert to Float Stage – Status LED will be steady Green and
Screen 4 will show “State: Float”.
NOTE: If for any reason charging current is not sufficient to raise the Battery Voltage
to the Equalization Voltage Regulation Set Point and sustain this voltage for the
programmed duration, equalization will be carried forward to the following
day(s) and will continue to remain locked in Equalization Stage until cumulative
