Discovery
Protocol
is
layer
3
network
protocol.
This
feature
allows
gathering
information
from
reachable
SAF
FreeMile
devices.
The
protocol
discovers
the
IP
address
and
software
version
of
reachable
SAF
FreeMile
unit.
Discovery
protocol
uses
UDP
packets
sent
on
port
78.
7.1
SAF
FreeMile
FODU
discovery
procedure
In
order
to
discover
the
IP
address
and
software
version
of
SAF
FreeMile
unit
proceed
with
the
following
steps:
-
Connect
your
PC
to
SAF
FreeMile
FODU
through
PoE
injector
-
Download
Discovery
Protocol
(available
from
saftehnika.com
webpage
https://www.saftehnika.com/downloads/tools
)
-
Open
the
cmd
window
on
your
PC
(Go
to
"Start
‐
>Run.."
and
enter
"cmd")
-
Check
for
the
IP
address
of
your
PC
Ethernet
adapter
connected
to
SAF
FreeMile
unit
by
executing
the
command
"ipconfig"
-
Navigate
to
the
folder
containing
previously
downloaded
and
unzipped
Discovery
Protocol
using
“cd”
command
-
Now
the
necessary
Discovery
Protocol
command
can
be
executed
(e.g.
"dp
sight
<scan_addr>",
where
<scan_addr>
should
be
substituted
by
Ethernet
adapter
IP
address
of
your
PC.)

Allows
to
find
out
the
IP
address
and
firmware
version
of
SAF
FreeMile
FODU
without
knowing
the
IP
subnet.
dp
scan
<local_addr>
<scan_addr>
This
command
gathers
the
information
in
the
specified
subnet.
It
sends
discovery
packets
to
the
broadcast
address
<scan_addr>
and
returns
the
IP
address
and
firmware
version
of
SAF
FreeMile
unit.
dp
remote
<local_addr>
<remote_addr>
<scan_addr>
Allows
finding
out
the
IP
address
and
firmware
version
of
SAF
FreeMile
remote
unit.
This
procedure
allows
bypassing
routers
as
the
response
packets
are
unicast
packets.
