MAINTENANCE
TO RECYCLE BATTERY
1. Turn the shears off, and remove the battery.
2. Remove the four screws on the bottom of
the shears (Fig. 11). Wear heavy gloves.
Carefully lift the blades out of the unit.
Leave the washer on the gear post.
3. Scrub each blade using a small, stiff bristle
brush and mild soap. Rinse the blades using
tap water, and dry them using a clean cloth.
4. Clean any grass from the bottom of the
case. Rotate the large gear to line up the
post with the slot in the moving blade
(Fig. 11).
5. Using a clean rag, apply a thin coat of
household oil to the inside contacting
surfaces of the blades. DO NOT over-oil
them.
6. Replace the blades on the units body.
7. Replace and tighten the four screws to
secure the blades (Fig. 11).
8. Replace the battery, and turn the grass
shears on briefly to distribute the oil between
the blades.
9. The Ryobi #181918 battery should be
charged for a minimum of 8 hours between
each use. See To Charge Battery.
REPLACING THE BLADES
Dull blades cut poorly, and put extra strain on
the motor. Replace the blades if they become
dull from heavy use. A new set of blades at the
beginning of each season will speed cutting and
extend the life of your grass shears.
1. Remove the battery from the grass shears.
2. Wear heavy gloves. Remove the four screws
on the bottom of the shears.
3. Lift the old blades out of the unit (Fig. 11).
Leave the washer on the gear post.
4. Clean any grass from the bottom of the case.
Rotate the large gear to line up the post with
the slot in the moving blade (Fig. 11).
5. Place the new blades on the units body.
6. Replace and tighten the four screws to
secure the blades.
7. Replace the battery if the grass shears will
be returned to use.
