nals can be located. By locating the ghost signals, the user is confirming the accuracy of the locate.

Locating a Sonde

Start by following the suspected path of the pipe and use the 8879 R

ECEIVER

to locate the S

ONDE

. Stop locat-

ing when the PEAK reading is found. Then rotate the R

ECEIVER

as shown in the figure below. When pivot-

ing the R

ECEIVER

, do not change the vertical position. The R

ECEIVER

will indicate a PEAK when the R

ECEIVER

antenna is in line with the S

ONDE

Now move the R

ECEIVER

side to side (across the path of the pipe) as shown below. When the PEAK if found,

the R

ECEIVER

is directly over the S

ONDE

. Mark this location. Next, check for ghost signals in front of and in

back of the S

ONDE

to confirm thE location.

FEED THE SONDE 10 FEET (3 METERS) INTO THE PIPE
