Am4-E5 A-BUS mOdULE
OPTIONAL AM4-E5 SUBZONES
NOTE: Before installing the module, turn off the power to the controller
and disconnect the power cord from the wall socket.
The AM4-E5 is an optional A-BUS module for the ACA-E5 controller that
adds four subzones to the system. These subzones support A-BUS keypads
and share a main zone’s source, with independent control for power and
volume.
The ACA-E5 hosts one or two AM4-E5 modules. Each module supports
four A-BUS keypads (A-K5L, A-K3 or legacy A-KP2) with RJ45 ports for CAT-
5 connection to keypads (T568A standard). Subzone keypads are typically
located in rooms near each main zone. Speakers in these rooms connect
directly to the A-BUS keypads with standard speaker cable. Source names
that appear on A-K5L keypads are provided by the ACA-E5, and may take a
few minutes to appear upon initial power up.
To install a module, locate the pair of plain metal plates on the back of the
ACA-E5. The top plate covers the slot for subzones 1 to 4, and the bottom
plate covers the slot for subzones 5-8. Remove the two Phillips head screws
holding the plate in place. Remove the plate.
Before installing the AM4-E5 module into the ACA-E5 controller, a set of
dip switches must be set according to which A-BUS keypads are used with
the module. If connecting A-K5L or A-K3 keypads to the AM4-E5, the keypad
dip switches on the module’s circuit board must be set in the OFF position.
For other A-BUS keypad connections, the dip switch must be set in the ON
position. Dip switches 1 to 4 correspond to subzones 1 through 4 for the top
AM4-E5 module. The bottom AM4-E5 dip switches correspond to subzones
5 through 8.
Grasp the two spring knobs and position the module so it is centered in
front of the controller’s module cavity. Push the module toward the back of
the cavity, keeping it as level as possible while moving straight between the
sides. There will be resistance when the module’s pins meet the controller’s
connectors. Carefully push the module into the connector until the connection
is made. Tighten the thumbscrews to hold the module in place.
Each module requires an A-PS4 power supply, powered ONLY after all
connections are made.
NOTE:
Any installed AM4-E5 must be powered by an A-PS4 power supply,
even if no keypads are connected to it.
