General Information
The digital positioner RE 3446 is a microprocessor system which drives the actuator from 0% to 100% with an input signal of 4..20mA.
The controller requires a potentiometer feedback for the whole stroke of the actuator. An internal measurement transducer converts
the potentiometer signal into a 4..20mA feedback signal, which is potential free from the input signal. The adjustment is carried out
automatically during initialisation. A digital adjustment after initialisation can be performed with the keys on the RE3446. The RE3446
drives the actuator via relays.
Caution: Before beginning to install or operate valves, please read the pamphlet "Hazard Warning...", the instructions for the actuator and, if applicable,
those for the optional devices.
Only trained and qualified specialist staff may install and commission valves

Installation and connection
The controller is supplied with factory settings. If the controller is delivered ready installed in a control valve, the unit is already factory
configured. Otherwise see the following commissioning instructions.
After mounting the controller into the actuator, do the following:
Connect the motor, potentiometer, input signal and output signal as described in Cap. . The potentiometer must be
adjusted so that if the valve is closed, the value of the potentiometer is approximately 10% of the whole potentiometer value. If the
valve is completely open, the value should be approximately 90% of the whole potentiometer value. The potentiometer value may be
measured between terminals 62 and 63.
Normal operation of the controller:
Control valve in 2 way design: 0% stroke (valve closed) potentiometer ca. 10% of its value:-
output 4mA
100% stroke (valve opened) potentiometer ca. 90% of its value:- output 20mA
Control valve in 3 way design: 0% stroke (B closed) potentiometer ca. 10% of its value:-
output 4mA
100% Hub (B opened potentiometer ca. 90% of its value:-
output 20mA
To change the operating direction, change terminal 61 with 63 and terminal K5 with K6.
Actuators of the series ST5114 and ST5115 have got separate limit switches. You must connect them with the controller and the
motor.
