232 Commands
The UltraView DVI may also be controlled via RS-232 commands. This feature requires that the controlling
computer has a RS-232 card. Otherwise, a USB to RS-232 adapter may be used. The UltraView DVI comes
with a DB9(F) serial communications port.
Establish a connection to the UltraView DVI :
1. Connect a straight-through RS-232 cable to the RS-232 connector on the PC.
2. Connect the other end of the cable to the RS-232 port of the UltraView DVI.
3. Power on the device.
To identify the COM port used by a Windows computer do the following:
1. Click on the
start
button.
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. Click on Device Manager.
4. Click on the arrow next to Ports (COM & LPT).
The adapter name and the COM port number in use should be displayed.
Setting up the Terminal Application:
1. Run the terminal client of choice (such as HyperTerminal, Tera Term or PuTTY).
2. Select the COM port on the PC where the unit is connected.
3. Use the following connection settings: 9600, N, 8, 1, No Flow Control.
Note:
PuTTY and other terminal software may not default to the settings above. If the RS-232 connection seems
unresponsive, cycling power to the UltraView DVI will reset all values and boot up messages will be sent to the
terminal display, verifying the connection.
A listing of available RS232 commands is shown in Appendix C.
