Charging battery
Before starting the machine up for the first time,
the battery to be used must be fully charged,
properly, by implementing the initial battery
charge routine. Roots assumes no liability for
damage to the battery caused by a fault when the
battery is charged for the first time.
During operation, the battery discharge indicator in the
operating panel indicates the discharge status of the
battery. The battery must be charged immediately the
red LED lights up. The battery is recharged using the
integrated on-board charger.

Set the key switch to Position 0.
The battery should not be charged in
Position 1.
Ÿ
Remove the charger cable from the recess on the
right-hand side of the machine.
Ÿ
Plug the charger cable in a 230 V power outlet.
While the battery is charging, the charge control
indicator lights up in the operating panel.
W h e n t h e c h a r g i n g p r o c e s s h a s b e e n
completed, disconnect the plug from the power
outlet and return safely to the recess.
The battery must be kept clean and dry to prevent
creeping current. Clean the battery according to the
instructions”Cleaning batteries“. Any liquid in the battery
container must be extracted and disposed of according
to regulations.
5. Care
Maintenance to be carried out every three months After
fully recharging and following a standing period of at
least 5 hours, the following must be measured and
recorded:

Total voltage
Ÿ
Individual voltage
If noticeable changes are detected compared to
previous measurements, or differences between the
cells or block batteries, the customer service should be
called for testing or repair.
Before starting any maintenance and repair work,
set the key switch to Position 0 to prevent starting
the machine inadvertently!
Batteries may only be handled and changed by
properly skilled maintenance personnel.
Only batteries approved by Roots may be used.
6. Storage
If batteries are out of operation for longer periods, they
should be stored in fully charged state in a dry, frost free
room.
Ÿ
In order to ensure that the battery is ready for
operation at any time, it can be recharged according
to one of the following methods

Full recharge every three months. When a
consumer is connected up (e.g. measuring or
controlling devices), it may be necessary to
recharge the battery every two weeks.
The customer service should be called immediately
when any faults are discovered in battery or battery
charger.
7. Faults
Disposal of Batteries
Old batteries with this sign are recyclable
economic goods and should be brought
back into the recycling process.
Old batteries which are not brought back into the
recycling process, have to be dealt with as dangerous
materials under the observance of all regulations.
