Overall problems
The unit turns off
unexpectedly
Check the “Auto Off” system setting .
The FANTOM will automatically be turned off when no operation has
been performed for a certain length of time . (At the factory settings,
the power will be turned off after 4 hours .) If you want the FANTOM to
stay on, change the “Auto Off” system setting to “OFF .”
Power won’t turn on
Are the included AC adaptor and power cord correctly
connected to an outlet and to the FANTOM?
Do not use any AC adaptor or power cord other than the supplied
items . Doing so will cause malfunctions .
Problems with the sound
No sound
Are your amp, speakers, headphones, etc ., connected
correctly?
Correctly connect your amp, speakers, and headphones .
Is the connected amp or speaker powered up?
Turn on the power of the connected amp or speaker .
Could the volume of a connected device have been
lowered?
Adjust the volume of the connected equipment .

Could the [MASTER VOLUME] knob be set to the minimum
level?
Adjust the [MASTER VOLUME] knob .
Can you connect headphones and hear sound through
them?
If you hear sound through your headphones, it may be that there
is a broken connection cable, or that your amp or mixer have
malfunctioned . Check your connection cables and equipment once
again .

Is the output destination settings correct?
Check the Zone Output Assign setting .

Could you be using a connection cable that contains a
resistor?
Use a connection cable that does not contain a resistor .

If pressing the keyboard does not produce sound, could
the Local switch be turned off?
Turn the Local Switch “ON .”
Could the tone’s partials be turned off?
Turn the Partial Switch “ON .”
Could the level setting be too low?
In the system parameter Sound tab, check the Master Level .
Are the effect settings correct?
Check the effect on/off settings . Also check settings such as effect
level .
Could the volume be lowered by a pedal operation or
slider operation?
Raise the volume of zones that are not producing sound .
Advance the pedals, raise the sliders, or check the settings of the
various controllers .
Could the volume be lowered by MIDI messages (volume
messages and expression messages) received from an
external MIDI device?
Check the volume messages or expression messages that are received
from an external MIDI device .

No sound from a specific
zone
Could the volume of the zone have been lowered?
Adjust the Level setting to raise the volume of the zone that you don’t
hear .
Could the settings of a specific zone be muted?
Defeat muting .
Could the settings of a specific zone be soloed?
Defeat solo .
Could the Zone Switch be set to EXT?
Set the Zone Sw to INT or COMMON .
Could Zone Select be set to a different zone?
Select the zone that you want to play .
No sound from a specific
range of keys
Could a key range be set?
If you don’t hear sound from a specific range of keys, check the key
range settings .
Sound is distorted
Could you be applying an effect that intentionally distorts
the sound?
If the sound of a specific tone or zone is distorted, lower the volume of
that tone or zone .
Could the [MASTER VOLUME] knob be set too high?
If the overall sound is distorted, lower the [MASTER VOLUME] knob .
Could the Output Gain be raised excessively?
In the Sound system settings, check the Output Gain setting .
Could the volume being input to the Analog Filter be
excessive?
In the Analog Filter section, set the Level appropriately .
Could a system effect be applied?
In some cases, the sound might be distorted by the M .COMP or M .EQ
settings . Check the M .COMP and M .EQ settings .
Pitch is wrong
Could the FANTOM’s tuning be incorrect?
In the Sound system settings, check the Master Tune setting .
Could the pitch have been changed by a pedal operation
or by a pitch bend message received from an external
MIDI device?
Check the pedal and the pitch bender .
Could the Coarse Tune, Fine Tune, or Master Tune
parameters be set?
Check the Coarse Tune, Fine Tune, and Master Tune settings .

Notes are broken off
The sound is interrupted if the maximum polyphony is
exceeded .
Reduce the number of zones that you’re using . Increase the VOICE
RESERVE setting for zones in which you want to avoid dropped notes .

Notes remain sounding
when you play the
keyboard
Could the polarity of the hold pedal be reversed?
Check the system setting Hold Pedal Polarity .
