Chapter 5:Software Manager
column is a brief description for the system. It is configured when the system is registered. The New
Packages column displays the total number or errata reports available for the system.
To change the sorting order of the
Systems Overview
list, click on the column header names. A bold
column header indicates the current sort order.
5.4.2 Errata Alerts
Click on the
Errata Alerts
tab to view the errata for every system in Your Network Group. If an errata
has been issued on any package in your system profile, you can view it here. The
Status
column
alerts you to errata reports you have not yet viewed. The
Date
column displays the date of the Errata.
The
Type
column categories the Errata as a Security Alert, Bug Fix Alert, or Enhancement Alert. The
Errata Report
column displays a brief description of the Errata, and the
Systems Affect
column gives
the number of system affected by the Errata. To change the sorting order of errata, click on the column
header names. A bold column header indicates the current sort order.
5.4.3 Downloading Updated Packages
If you have not configured your
Retrieval/Installation Settings
to proactively download and install
the most recent Red Hat packages (see Section 3.3, Retrieval/Installation Settings), you can download
them through Software Manager.
Click on the
Your Network
tab, then click on
Errata Alerts
. Click on the link for the
Errata Report
that you want to view. The Errata Report page gives you a quick summary of the issues, tells you
which of your systems are affected, and how many packages are included in the update. To view the
names, descriptions, release versions, and build date for the packages, click the
details
link under the
Packages
column. Click on
view complete errata information
for a more detailed report.
As shown in Figure 5–4, Package Retrieval Options you have three options for retrieving the packages:
•
RPM Update
— Let Software Manager deliver your packages through the
Red Hat Update
Agent
. If you have the Red Hat Network Daemon running on the affected systems, click this
option to have the daemon automatically download the selected packages to your system. The
packages will be downloaded to the directory
/var/spool/up2date
(or whatever directory
that you set as your downloads directory) and optionally install them if you have it configured to
do so. The download directory and option to install packages automatically are configured through
the
Red Hat Update Agent Configuration Tool
. Refer to Chapter 3,
Red Hat Update Agent
Configuration Tool
for details.
•
Download
— Download immediately through the Web browser. Choose whether to include the
binaries and/or source RPMs. You can download as a stream, and TAR file, or a Zip file. If you
download as a stream, you will be prompted to save each RPM file one after the other until you
have downloaded all of them. If you download as a TAR file, you will be prompted to save one
TAR file that contains all the RPM files in it. After downloading it, untar it and install the packages.
