Instructions for use
How to adjust the Cocoonababy® nest to fit your baby
1-
Remove the fitted sheet (2).
2-
Lie baby down in the nest
on his back
with his head placed 5/7cms
down from the top end of the nest (the narrow end is the top) (3).
3-
Check the position of the wedge and change it if necessary
so that it is right up against baby’s bottom and will stop him
slipping down into the hollow of the nest (3). His legs will be
higher up than his bottom (his body will be in a semi foetal
position) and his feet will not be able to push against the edge
of the nest. This way he will not be able to hyper extend his body.
We advise that you check the position of the wedge very regularly
as baby will grow quickly and the wedge will need to be moved
further down, towards the bottom of the nest. Remember that his
head should always lie close to the top of the nest.
4-
Take baby out of the nest and replace the fitted sheet (4).
How to use the Tummy Band
Although the Cocoonababy® must no longer be used from the moment
the child starts trying to roll over or change position in the nest, to
reassure parents we designed the Tummy Band – a band which encircles
the Cocoonababy® and the child without hindering his movements.
1-
Lay the double band across the nest, the short band which will encircle
the child open towards you (5).
2-
Encircle the nest with the long band and close it with the velcros on
the side (6).
3-
Lay your child in the nest and close the velcros on the short band
making sure that the band is lying under his armpits and around his
tummy (7).
How to use the Cocoonababy® nest
The nest should always be used with its own fitted sheet. The fitted
sheet covers both the nest and the wedge, the labels on the fitted sheet
should be at the bottom end of the nest, close to baby’s feet (the bottom
end is the wider one).
Do not add a towel or muslin cloth on top of the fitted sheet or place
anything below the nest as you may alter the slope of the nest.
Baby’s head should always be placed close to the top end of the nest.
As he grows, however, you will need to move the wedge further down
until the day baby’s feet go beyond the bottom end of the nest – this is
normal and you can continue to use it (8).
Important information
1-
When you put the Cocoonababy® nest into your child’s cot, place it
up against the head of the cot and against one of the sides.
2-
Do not cover the fitted sheet with a towel or muslin cloth or place
anything below the nest as you may alter the slope of the nest.
3-
In the Cocoonababy® nest your child will be warmer than if he were
lying on a traditional mattress. Do not overdress him. If you wish to
use a sleeping bag you may use the Red Castle Cocobag™ swaddle
bag which was designed specifically for use with the nest.
4-
After a few days’ use you may get the impression that the foam nest
has changed shape but this is not the case. With your baby’s weight,
the special cover below the fitted sheet stretches to fit the exact
shape of the foam nest. This is quite normal.
5-
To help your child’s development always place playgyms or mobiles
level with his feet and never directly above his head. It is important
that when a child is lying on his back his gaze should be drawn
towards his feet.
6-
Please remember that for your child’s health and safety the
temperature in his bedroom should be around 19°C/66.2°F.
7-
Your child should always be placed to sleep on his back with nothing
near his face.
8-
Do not use blankets, quilts or downies until your child is more than
10 months old.
9-
Despite all advice given and precautions taken in order to reduce the
risks of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) all the causes of this
dramatic event are not yet identified. The use of the Cocoonababy®
nest is not a guarantee against SIDS.
10-
If baby’s attention could be attracted by a sound (e.g. Television)
or drawn towards a fixed source of light, it is important to vary the
position of the Cocoonababy® nest in the room so that baby does
not continually turn his head to the same side (19,20,22,23).
11-
When baby is awake, take him out of the Cocoonababy® nest. Play
with him, carry him in your arms or in a baby wrap carrier, put him in a
playpen, lie him on his tummy on a playmat (
under the supervision
of an adult
) (9, 10, 11) …
Do not:
(12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18).
Correct positions:
(19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24).
How to take care of the Cocoonababy® nest
The fitted sheet and the Tummy Band can be machine washed at 30C°.
The nest’s protective cover is machine washable at 60°. However, please
remove and replace this cover with great care to avoid snagging the
netting on the nest.
